iPhone 6S vs iPhone 6S Plus

Oct 17, 2022 Marco Mai

Introduction

Apple’s iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus were released simultaneously back in September of 2015. Both smartphones have a lot in common when looking at the specs of each, but the most significant difference between them is the size, hence the plus. For modern technology, bigger doesn’t always mean better, so personal preference is key when choosing between them.

iPhone 6S: Thing #1

The dimensions of the 6S come in at 5.44” x 2.64” x 0.28” (length, height, width). The 6S is equipped with a  4.7” inch retina HD display with IPS technology, and the 3D Touch feature included. The 3D Touch technology uses sensors integrated into the display to determine the amount of pressure and respond accordingly.

Like most of the Apple iPhones, the 6S is supported by the same aluminum structure as many of its previous counterparts. The smartphone is available in four color choices: Space Grey, Silver, Gold, and Rose Gold. Consumers had complained about the lack of storage in their previous phones so Apple decided to take action with the iPhone 6S. The iPhone 6S is offered at 32GB and the enormous 128GB storage size.

The cameras on the 6S model run the same as the 6S Plus, which is a 5 MP front and Single 12MP Wide rear camera. The iPhone 6S can record at 4K at 30 fps and the Slo-mo video support is offered 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps.

The iPhone 6S is using the same A9 Bionic chip also found in the 6S Plus. So both models of smartphones have about the same computing power as the other. The battery output on the 6S is obviously a bit lower compared to the size of the 6S Plus. The iPhone 6S uses a 1715 mAh battery capacity.

iPhone 6S Plus: Thing #2

The iPhone 6S Plus carries over a lot of components and features that the 6S originally released with. The obvious take away from the comparison is that the 6S Plus is, well, the plus size version of the 6S. With a bigger-sized phone comes a bigger-sized screen.  The 6S Plus is equipped with a 5.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen LCD Multi‑Touch display with IPS technology, which is 0.8-inch more than the iPhone 6S counterpart. The larger screen allowed Apple to increase the resolution of the display to 1920-by-1080-pixel resolution at 401 ppi causing the picture on the screen to have a bit more clarity. The iPhone 6S Plus is 0.79” x 0.43” larger than the iPhone 6S which is a sizable physical difference. The 6S Plus also weighs 1.73 ounces more than the 6S.

Apple’s iPhone 6S Plus uses the previous aluminum casing as the 6S did. The 6S Plus is available in four color variants: Space Grey, Silver, Gold, and Rose Gold. Furthermore, Apple offers the smartphone at the same storage capacities as the 6S, 32GB and 128GB.

The cameras on the iPhone 6S Plus did not receive anything new when compared to the 6S. The Plus runs the identical 5 MP front and Single 12MP Wide rear camera. However, the 6S Plus does have some built-in image and video stabilization in its favor.

The iPhone 6S Plus takes advantage of the same A9 Bionic chip as the 6S does. The battery capacity is much higher on the 6S Plus, clocking in at 2750 mAh, which is much more than the 6S. This is because the 6S Plus is allowed a bigger battery due to its size increase.

Conclusion

The price of a smartphone is always a deciding factor in whether or not you want to upgrade. The iPhone 6S was priced at $649 USD and 6S Plus at $749 during the release of both back in 2015. However, they’ve encountered many price reductions in the used marketplace thanks to the continuous update of iPhones. At UpTrade, a used iPhone 6S in excellent condition is priced at $109 and iPhone 6S Plus at $209.
